SAVING LIVES THROUGH THE MEDICAL WELFARE INITIATIVE;PONGEA PRODUCT.

Health care is one of the four key pillars that the Kenyan government hopes to deliver in the next four year
Further, the government hopes that by the year 2022 the health coverage will have risen from the current 25.74 million Kenyans to a population of over 50 million.
Imarisha Sacco was already on the way to securing a health plan for its members through the Pongea welfare, a medical welfare initiative to assist members get a reprieve from the expensive medical conditions.
Through the initiative Imarisha Sacco members came together and contributed to build a sinking fund, an initiative that assists members to foot their medical bill in an event they require specialized treatment.
The individual member allocation has a maximum limit and this amount is only payable to recognized hospitals with which the Society has a memorandum of understanding. Each member  contributes a total of ksh.400 per month.

The  deputy C.E.O Imarisha Sacco Mr. Ernest Langat while addressing members during an education day forum held in Edoret satellite office  said,” the Pongea medical welfare  initiative  had been  enhanced to a maximum of kshs.1.5 million from the initial Kshs. 1.2 million and the consolation amount to any bereaved family  raised to ksh.100, 000 up from kshs. 75,000”.
Action.
 Members entitled to this cover can now foot medical bill for illnesses that require referrals for advanced treatment such as kidney transplants, heart problems and cancer
 The funds are payable to recognized hospitals with which the society has a Memorandum of Understanding including ones abroad.
Testimony.
Ms. Doreen Rono a member at the Kericho Sacco branch since year 2010 was awarded kshs.1.million and a further kshs. 250,000 for personal upkeep  when she was diagnosed with life threatening cancer ailment last year."I am happy to be alive, am a beneficiary, I encourage members to contribute and be a part of pongea medical welfare initiative” She said.
 Future plans.
Imarisha Sacco will in future expand this welfare medical initiative to cover other ailments, “we encourage members to continue contributing to the kitty to save lives of members who would otherwise loose a fortune trying to stay alive courtesy of expensive medical bills”, the deputy C.E.O Mr. Ernest Langat concluded.
